| The
project is a highly playable platform game in which the levels of the
game progress through the history of computer gaming. It is concerned
with how computer gaming evolved through time from the early black and
white Pong to modern day 3D. Each of the 6 levels of The
Chicken or the Egg are associated with a particular era or stage
in time, and the graphical content, gameplay and detail take influence
from their eras.
The game is chiefly concerned with evolution and the concept of "what
came first, the chicken or the egg?" is the main theme of the game,
and reflects the importance of evolution to the project created. The
main character is a chicken; it is your task to guide him from one end
of the farmyard-style location to the other, and also through his life
from an egg to a fully-grown chicken.
Every aspect of the game evolves through the levels. The length and
difficulty of each level increases, as does the number of features,
details, enemies, objects and abilities. Every new level adds new features
and abilities to the game, and with this reflects the style (colours,
pixel size) and amount of detail of the era it is drawing influence
from.
The Chicken or the Egg is not historically accurate, it takes
influence from the eras associated from it but does not offer a factually
accurate remake of games from each time period. However, the levels
do progress through the history of gaming and it is hoped that interest
in the game will spur interest in computer game history. The links
