about marigold.

After graduating with a degree in Social Anthropology I have worked and exhibited as a portrait painter & illustrator in the South East for the last 12 years. Although I do not directly use my degree in my career, an interest in the subject continues to inform the way I paint and live. I regularly take portrait and illustration commissions and welcome any enquiries.

I mainly paint portraits in oils and find it the most expressive medium for portraiture; my main source of inspiration and motivation. I paint from both live sittings and photographs, and when working from photographs feel it is important to meet the subject and take the pictures myself in order to get a better likeness.

More recently drawing and illustration has naturally grown into a key area of my creative work. Developing the drawing and making it the main feature of a piece has been an extremely rewarding process. My illustration work has also lead me to a new medium in watercolour which I now work with as often as oil paint.
